IMPACT
THE PROBLEM
Racism and hate against communities of color have existed for centuries in America and continue to exist. We have seen them manifest in a variety of ways, including but not limited to, the increase in hate crimes against Asians fueled by COVID-19, ongoing police brutality against Blacks, unjust profiling of Muslims post 9/11, and harmful rhetoric against Latinxs. These issues have lasting social, mental, physical, and economic consequences to our communities.
CORE PILLARS OF WORK
Hate Is A Virus aims to combat hate and racism against communities of color by engaging, educating and mobilizing our AAPI community across generations to stand up for our own community and communities beyond.
We do this through:
BUILDING SOLIDARITY
DECOLONIZING FROM WHITE SUPREMACY
CHANGING NARRATIVES & HEALING GENERATIONAL WOUNDS
EMPOWERING & ACTIVATING COMMUNITY
ABOLITION OF OPPRESSIVE SYSTEMS
EQUITABLE REPRESENTATION & EDUCATION
PAST WORK
Amplifying Small Business Owners
In March 2020, #HateIsAVirus formed in a living room as an effort to create a safe space and support local Asian owned businesses through weekly food crawls.
Raise A Million
Our efforts to support the community and uplift AAPI voices started with our series of live digital rallying events “Raise a Million” Chapters 1 & 2. AAPI talent from all industries came together to have difficult conversations, share art and music to raise awareness and funds to support our communities.
